Guys!
I just discovered the most awesome website ever. On Sunday we had a lesson about financial management and the importance it is in marriage. The question is not "how much will he make" but "can he manage his money" people! With so many divorces, and money being the main problem in most, this is a topic that was nothing short of refreshing to hear about in church. I feel like when we talk about marriage we talk about "the best thing to do" or "the worst thing to do" in really big, ambiguous terms. This is something concrete, specific, and I loved it.
There is a website called mint.com that is an amazing FREE online resource to help you to just that. What it does is pull in all of your financial statements, bank accounts, credit cards, etc., and put them into one place to help you see where your money is going and figure out where you want it to go. We think that because we are in college we have nothing to budget because we have no money, but that is not true. It gives detailed information about where you are spending your money, helps you design savings plan for goals in your future, and helps you stay on track. It is completely secure (something I was really concerned about), and uses the same security system as online banking. No money can be transferred on the site, so the worst anyone could do is change your budget. It is totally worth it people. I was able to identify several errors on my credit card statement I have not been able to catch before and create a financial plan to get to India. Try it. Seriously.
